China has more than Huawei – Hyper Speed Network, combining 5G with Blockchain Technology

 

The 5G standard promises to embody a mobile-connectivity revolution, providing enhanced broadband connectivity and speed for a wide swath of customers. As we approach that future, technological innovation is made almost daily and the race about who is leading the field has long begun. China and its leading company Huawei are paving the way. But there is more in China besides Huawei. We had the privilege to interview Hyper Speed Network (HSN), a Shenzhen startup, which is combining 5G with blockchain, one of the other so-called disruptive technologies.

1) Can you briefly introduce HSN in a way that is understandable for less technical people?
a. What inspired the HSN team?

Our original core team has been in the communication field for over 10 years. As a traditional technology enterprise, we have our own values and mission. We entered the blockchain field at the end of 2014 and believe that blockchain is the key technology to form the next-generation Internet technology. We developed the HSN project by the continuous input of resources combining the data communication technology and blockchain technology.

Besides the comprehensive business prospects brought by the coming era of the Internet of Everything after 5G popularization, what drove and inspired us more is the hope that through building the HSN network we can recreate the infrastructure of future social information networks, create a low-cost and self-stimulated data storage, computing, and value exploration network which links people to people, people to things, and things to things.

b. What are the core values? How would you describe the company culture?

Our core values: Everybody is a contributor to and beneficiary of the digital economy. HSN guarantees everyone has equal rights in the digital economy era.

We say our company culture is equality, creativity, contribution, and reciprocity.

c. Are there any other projects that can be compared with HSN? Who do you consider to be your main competitor and how is HSN different/better? How would you compare yourself to a project like, for example, IOTA that also focuses a lot on what they call “enabling the true Internet-of-Things through Machine Economy”?
Currently, there is no project in the market that can be compared with HSN. If we have to choose a competitor, we feel that the combination of EOS and IPFS is more suitable. Through blocking technology, HSN enables a vast TPS increase. Then, with edge computing, HSN can execute not only smart contracts but also computationally intensive application code. With our distributed storage network, HSN can store massive data content, e.g. video streams. Adding up our self-developed encryption and deduplication technology, HSN boosts space usage efficiency in encrypted storage scenarios. These are the core competitive points of HSN. Compared with IPFS and EOS, HSN is a superset of both of them. It is a full-featured underlying blockchain operating system. HSN makes blockchain more suitable for business scenarios of 5G and even post-5G.
2) Can you give a more comprehensive introduction of the team members?
a. How many people are currently involved in HSN? How many of them are developers? Can you tell more about the background of the core team (Dr. Cui Wei, Jia Mingzhe, She Gaoyuan, etc.)

Currently, HSN has over 180 employees, over 100 of them are data communication and hardware development engineers, 60+ are blockchain developers. The rest 20+ are market operations and functional officers. Our core members are introduced in detail in our whitepaper. Besides these members, there are more who are experts and senior practitioners in data communication, blockchain, and community operation. Later, we will provide regular updates in our AMA’s to give the community further understanding of who our team is.

b. How much growth of your team do you expect in 2019? What kind of positions?

As HSN has already filled the R&D team to a certain scale, the following growth will be mainly in community and marketing to raise awareness about the project. A rough plan is getting 15-20 new people in that area. We also hope that more community Key Opinion Leaders can join HSN’s miner nodes to develop and grow together with us.

3) As for business development:
a. Did HSN already establish partnerships? With which type of organizations is this?

As for science & technology, we have already provided communication and NAS(Network-Attached-Storage) solutions, products, and technologies to some internationally known companies like Lenovo, ACER, ORICO, China Mobile, China Telecom, etc. Once our main net releases, we will primarily promote the 5G + blockchain technologies and modules to these partners.

b. Monitor Chan, is an angel investor in HSN and Co-Founder of Waltonchain. Can we expect any cooperation between the two projects?

HSN is an open eco-network which can combine with the IoT. There are a lot of integration points in 5G and the IoT; we may cooperate with Waltonchain in this field in the future. HSN’s communication technology can promote Waltonchain’s IoT business better.

4) Currently, there is a lot of debate in many countries about whether they should allow telecom operators to use Huawei equipment for the 5G era because of potential security threats. Regardless whether these suspicions are true or not, does HSN, in essence, offer a solution to this? In other words: Can the data being sent through the HSN network be accessed by anyone that should not have the right to access it (regardless of the equipment brand)?

Currently, the debate on Huawei’s 5G equipment is mainly focused on the key equipment like 5G base stations and core network. HSN solution includes HSN chain and 5G MEC module which is the critical technical equipment of 5G. It doesn’t belong to 5G base stations and core network but is similar to a terminal module in mobile phones.

The baseband chipset is obtained directly from core suppliers like Qualcomm. Moreover, HSN has no need to and will never access or detect the data sent through the 5G MEC module, so there is no need to worry about the impact of the Huawei incident on HSN. HSN provides users with basic services like data storage; there, user data is first encrypted and then stored. Only the users who get the authorization or have user keys can access the data, therefore the security of data storage is ensured. In whole, the Huawei incident may delay the integral progress of the worldwide 5G coverage, but it can never stop the coming 5G era.

a. What are the biggest challenges of 5G?

Compared with previous communication technologies, 5G has higher throughput and concurrency, lower latency and power consumption. It will promote the IoT industry development and pave the way for the coming Internet of Everything. In the IoE era, the number of data producers and the scale of data will increase exponentially. How to protect, store, and explore the value of this data will be the biggest challenge in the 5G era.

b. What does blockchain have to do with it?

Blockchain is a combination of many technologies. It provides data tamper protection, security and privacy protection, token incentives, and other functions in a decentralized network. As for HSN, it uses the double-layer structure with networks of Miner Nodes and Edge Nodes. In it, the Miner Nodes use blockchain for smart contracts, data security, and tamper protection. Through the token economy, HSN encourages the devices integrating 5G MEC modules to join the HSN Edge Node network, contribute idle computing and storage resources, and form a vast distributed edge computing system.

c. In very simple language, how exactly does the HSN solution work inside that 5G, blockchain atmosphere and what does it aim to solve?

HSN provides not only a communication channel for smart 5G devices but also storage space for massive data generated by these devices and computing power for value exploration based on this data. Blockchain asymmetric encryption and smart contracts ensure data security; token economy incentivizes users to actively contribute their idle computing and storage resources.

5) Can you tell more already about the upcoming token sale?
a. Can you tell us on which exchange the IEO will happen?

Currently, we are doing the preparatory work like community construction before we hit the exchange. Numerous exchanges want to list HSN; our team is in the selection and negotiation process.

b. What will be the initial token price? Will there be a minimum and maximum for participants to invest?

The initial token price will be 0.035 USDT. We are pleased to accept the direct investment from users who recognize HSN and are willing to hold the token in the long term. Currently, there is no investment amount limit. We will provide all prospective investors with more specific investment information.

c. On which other exchanges will the token be listed?

After we announce listing on the initial exchange, we will arrange the second batch of exchanges.
